Second edition · 2025
Teaching and Learning Mathematics Online
A substantially expanded edition that preserves the practical core of the first while adding nine chapters, lessons from COVID-19, and a much broader account of the technological landscape.
The expanded edition
Five years later, there was rather more to say.
Between the two editions, online education went through an involuntary global stress test. The second edition keeps the practical organization of the first, but incorporates the lessons of that period and a rapidly changed set of technological possibilities.
Nine new chapters broaden the treatment of active learning, assessment, tutoring, discussion, video, digital resources, calculus learning, and multimedia design. They sit alongside revised and continuing work from the first edition rather than replacing it.
New in this edition: chapters added for 2025 are marked below. The pattern is useful in itself: the greatest expansion came in how students interact and how technology is actually used.
