About TLMO

Mathematics is hard enough before the Wi-Fi gets involved.

Teaching and Learning Mathematics Online is a collection about the practical work of teaching mathematics and statistics when instructor and student are not necessarily in the same room—or even on the same schedule.

The editors

James P. Howard, II
+ John F. Beyers

The book grew from experience rather than technological evangelism. The central question is not whether online learning is good or bad. That is not a particularly useful question. The useful questions are narrower: what works, for whom, under what conditions, and how do we know?

Across both editions, contributors address those questions through course design, assessment, student interaction, mathematics anxiety, technological tools, teacher preparation, and the ordinary mechanics of explaining difficult ideas at a distance.
